Coin Collecting

Some additional websites of interest, each valuable in its own way:

The Coin Collector's Home Page is very business-like, with links to other dealers, FAQs and inventory lists for ancient and medieval coins as well as more modern ones.

Coin News is Britain's largest circulation coin magazine. Events, auction results, dealer lists and links are available here. Particularly helpful to those who collect non-U.S. coins.

Coin Link is another very good, well organized all-purpose website for rare-coin collectors.

Numismatic Network Canada lists numismatic clubs in each province.

A few weeks ago, a visitor to this column began an application to become an editor at Suite101.com, on the topic of Coin Collecting. This led me to explore the subject, and decide to write this introductory article. If that reader, or any other numismatist who sees this, would be interested in completing the application process, I'd love to see Coin Collecting as its own column here, as I've only just tapped the tip of the iceberg. It is a marvelous hobby for young and old, a way to connect with history (as is the collecting of any antique) and it is understandable that millions of people have enjoyed collecting coins for so many generations.
