Kyo Kara Maoh! vol. 3 and Saiyuki Reload vol. 2 Anime DVD Reviews

Recap: Yuri is a human boy who discovered that he is the reincarnated soul of the Great Demon King. He is the heir to the Great Demon Kingdom, an alternate world that he inadvertently travels to by falling into water one day. There, he tries to prevent a war between the humans and demons. Not an easy task but for a young man with a love of baseball, a pure heart, and a strong sense of justice, Yuri is sure gonna try! What lends to the comedy is the gaggle of good looking men surrounding, guarding, and at times fawning, over Yuri. Through a mishap, not understanding demon customs, Yuri finds himself betrothed to the handsome young Wolfram, which always leads to one comedic misunderstanding after another. Join him as he travels an alternate world. Hopefully he'll live to rule it!
Review: Volume 3 does a great job of keeping up the fun filled comedic tone of the show while adding some more to the story with the ever growing threat of an all out war. In one episode in particular we get a more dramatic mood as we see the more dire consequences of the prejudices carried by both the humans and the demons towards each other. Filled with adventure and great comedy, plus each volume holds an impressive five episodes, Kyo Kara Maoh! remains a solid lead in the comedy adventure anime series released this year. It holds strong at 8.5/10 kendo swords.

Saiyuki Reload Volume 2 is a late title for review. Volume 3 was reviewed previously but sometimes you get a title out of sequence as in this case. I'm very glad this earlier volume crossed my door as volume 2 is an improvement from the third installment.
Recap: Four young men travel West on a journey to save their land, Shangri-la, from falling into chaos as a demon king is about to be resurrected. Shangri-la was a land where humans and demons lived in peace until recent turmoil erupted. Our heroes are an unlikely lot: a womanizing chain smoking gambler, a sarcastic, bad tempered, smoking priest, a fun loving always wanting to eat monkey demon, and a mild mannered fellow who was turned into a demon after a tragic event in his past..
