Advance Review of Tenjho Tenge Vol. 3 and Recently Released Saiyuki Reload Vol. 4© Holly Ellingwood
Recap and Review (please note: some spoilers are within the reviews but are kept to a minimum):
Tenjho Tenge starts out like a freight train barreling through your home. We immediately pick up where we left off with the Juken Club members defending themselves fro the vicious onslaught of the Executive Student Council. Aya is in the thrall of the power of the Dragon's Eye, Maya is critically injured, Souichiro is badly damaged and Bob and the others' conditions remain unknown. Wow, what a way to start an anime volume! In fact, with each volume of Geneon's martial art action comedy, momentum keeps building. As this is only volume 3 so far of 8, I'm curious to see if Tenjho Tenge can keep up the pace. This volume is jam packed with increasing tense drama as the anime moves away a bit from its earlier, heavier, comedic slant. This time, we learn many things. One is a more revelations about Aya's powers as well as Souichiro's true abilities. The biggest reveal though has to do with Maya and her past; what happened to her brother to set her against the head of the Executive Student Council, the invincible Mitsuomi? We're given the climatic conclusion to this first climatic battle between the Juken members and the Council while also getting some great flash back episodes regarding what led to the founding of the Juken club and Maya's true intentions. An adrenalin rush to watch with riveting action and building character and plot developments, Tenjho Tenge volume 3 holds the series strong at 8.5 out of 10 kendo swords.
Extras: A bit slim on bonus features, this volume has previews of other Geneon releases. Release Information: Tenjho Tenge Volume 3 will be available October 18th. Recap: Saiyuki Reload is the latest season of the popular Saiyuki series, an action/adventure anime. The Reload TV series is currently being released by Geneon Entertainment. In it, our band of four rough, rude, and unlikely heroes, referred to as the Sanzo party, travel in the magical world of Shangri-la, a place where both demons and humans lived peacefully together. However, attempts to resurrect a great demon have caused unrest and demons change into bloodthirsty and violent creatures against their will, attacking their fellow humans.
