"Sex and violence: just another day of high school..."

Tenjho Tenge volume 2 picks up the kinetic pace of the first volume of this wacky martial arts action packed series. Our unlikely heroes of the martial arts Juken Club are taken for a night of relaxation, just chillin' at the bowling alley when the Executive Student Council makes a decisive strike against them! Sending out their best fighters, the evil Executive Council is bent on destroying Souichiro and his friends no matter what the cost. More mysteries are raised such as why are they so determined to disband and destroy our heroes? Why is the Juken Club such a threat? And what is the mysterious power of the Dragon' Eye that Aya possesses? This volume hits hard and fast with intense action sequences, some outrageous martial arts styles, and laying a good foundation for an interesting story. Thoroughly enjoyable, my only complaint is that volume 2 contains only three episodes. At least four episodes per disc in this longer series (a total of 8 volumes from Geneon), would be nice. Kicking up the pace even more, filled with action, fan service, and some zany humor peppered within it, Tenjho Tenge volume 2 rates a well earned 8.5 out of 10 kendo swords. I can't wait for the next installment!

Rating: This anime is rated a well chosen 16 and up for violence (and there's a lot) as well as language.

Release Information: Tenjho Tenge volume 2, containing episodes 5 to 7, is available now. A limited edition transparent pencil board is available with the DVD while quantities last.

Samurai Champloo is a new TV series offered by Geneon that will have you tripping to zany hip hop Japanese samurai action. What a fantastic series! Volumes 1 to 3 introduce us to feudal Japan; the time of the samurai as well as decadence and those in power abusing it. Enter in our three main characters; cool headed samurai Mugen, the wild and wooly sword wielding Jin, and one reckless, fearless Fuu, the young woman who sets them off on a crazy journey. After stopping the two dangerous men from killing each other and then rescuing them (arguably) from being executed by the town, Fuu claims they owe her a debt which can only be repaid by helping her find "the samurai who smells like sunflowers". We're taken for a ride as we join the trio as they travel Japan looking for the mysterious Sunflower Samurai. They get into one insane adventure after another, ranging from hilarious to heart-pounding action to poignant moments of drama. Through each episode we learn more about the world they live in, their own characters, and the growing bond forming between the three of them. Unlikely friends, even more unlikely as heroes, these three people are riveting to watch. Samurai Champloo shows us just what excellence can be achieved with a combination of high quality and daring artwork, clever storytelling, outrageous humor, and incredible action. It is an ingenious blend of something for everyone. Of note, the English dub cast is excellent. Give yourself a treat and do not miss viewing this title. It rates a big fat 9 out of 10 kendo swords.
