When “Rugrats in Paris: The Movie” opens, the kids are at a wedding reception – Grandpa Lou Pickles has tied the knot with Lulu – voiced by Debbie Reynolds. The night before, however, Angelica caught a glimpse of a “Godfather” movie and has decided to play the part of the mafioso boss. In a side office at the reception hall, Angelica lets the absolute power of that position mesmerize “the babies” as she grants their wishes. Her first request is from Tommy. His brother Dil’s binky was taken by some boys at the playground and buried in the sand. The Pickles brothers want a new pacifier. Later, she passes by a baby happily sucking away on a pacifier; she grabs it away and hands it to Dil. The babies truly believe she is magical.
The quest changes locales when Stu Pickles is ordered to EuroReptarland to repair a robotic Reptar he invented for that park’s show. The entire Rugrats cast joins him on his trip abroad to the Japanese theme park set in the middle of Paris, France. We meet Madam Coco La Bouche, voiced by Susan Sarandon, and her assistants, Jean-Claude (John Lithgow) and Kira Watanabe (Julia Kato). Coco has just found out she will not be named boss of EuroReptarland when her boss, Mr. Yamaguchi, retires because she does not have a family or “the heart of a child” – not even in a jar, as she comments under her breath when she discovers this little bit of news. Angelica, in her inimitable childish selfishness, leads the evil child hater straight to Chas and Chuckie Finster. But Chas has also met Kira and her daughter Kimi, creating a love triangle that throws Coco, happily, straight into the muck of the theme park. In true Rugrats fashion, the babies dive into another adventure as they first look for a new mommy for Chuckie then try to stop Chuckie’s dad from marrying the wrong one – Coco. The adventure includes a destructive romp through Paris in a gigantic Reptar robot and his evil nemesis Escargot, driven by Jean-Claude. The trek through the city brings back memories of old Japanese Godzilla movies as the Rugrats set out to save Chas and destroy Paris along the way. As they near Notre Dame Cathedral, where Chas and Coco are getting married without the babies present, a water basin in the cathedral quivers, reminiscent of Jurassic Park. Go To Page: 1 2
