Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker Blasts Batman into the Future

Mar 2, 2001 - © Mariolga Fernandez Locklin

Be mindful of this when you let your kids watch the movie. If you think it's OK, but you're not sure, I strongly suggest watching it with them first -- you can also hit a wrong button on the remote if your finger slips (!). (By the way, make sure to listen closely when the twins are taken home at the end of the movie -- what is it they call their grandmother?)

One of the reasons I loved this movie is the way the new Batman -- Terry -- is reborn into his own man. Up until this point, he has considered himself Batman's apprentice. He has felt that Bruce Wayne was far superior to him in every aspect, but when he defeats the Joker in his own way, Bruce Wayne gets a newfound respect for the youngster. Terry McGinnis breaks free from the old stereotypes and creates his own Batman.

Because of this, Batman Beyond breaks free of the sequel mold and creates a new character -- the main similarity is just the name of Batman.
