Halloween Pet Hell

Halloween is fun for humans. Costumes, candy, trick or treating, and parties are all a part of the Halloween tradition, providing humans an excuse to embrace these activities. However, what is a fun time for humans, isn't always fun for the family pet.

According to Kidsource.com, pet owners should consider the following:

1. Trick-or-treaters may frighten your pet, causing them to become agitated. Pets who have access to the people coming to the door for candy might become frightend and agitated. Pet owners run the risk of their pet biting someone, resulting in the pet being interned.

2. Pets are at risk for becoming the target of cruel and fatal tricks. Secure pets in a safe place, so that they are not abducted or given candy that could make them sick or kill them.

3. Keep pets away from decorations that they can get tangled in or chew on, causing illness.

4. Certain humane organizations encourage pet owners, especially those who have black cats, who may be targeted for cruel activities, to keep these pets secured during Halloween. Access the The Orion Web Site.

Murphy Animal Hospital Web Sitestates that costumes for pets may be cute, but rubber bands, which are sometime used, could become a hazard for your pet. This site also advises pet owners not to take their pet trick-or-treating. However, if the pet does go, make sure it is on a short leash, reducing the chance that it may fight other animals or bite a trick-or-treater.

Cruelty comes in many forms. Sometimes, it's what the pet owner fails to consider that can cause unnecessary stress or harm to their pet. It is up to owners to put themselves in the pet's place, and consider if an acitivity is a possible hazard for their pet pal.
