Importance of Dharma - Verse 5 & 6

© Seetha Natarajan

The poet implores the humanity to tread the path of Dharma right from this very moment.

Verse (5)
Anru Arivam Yennadhu Aram Saigha Mattradhu Ponrunghal Pondrath Thunai.
Explanation:
Don't postpone the practice of vitues/ Dharma to tomorrow. Only Dharma with be your immortal companion even after your death.
The practice of Dharma must begin this very moment. Postponing it to a later day is pointless. The only thing that is sure to accompany you after your death is your good deeds or Dharma. Your virtues know no death.

Verse (6)
Azhukkaru Ava Veghuli Inna soll Nanghum Ezhukka Eyandradhu Aram.
Explanation:
A virtuous life is one which is not touched by any of these - Envy, anger, greed and unsavory speech.
Envy, greed, anger and unsavory speech are attributes than man must strive to eliminate. Too much wantedness and envy are a colossal waste of this precious life.

Envy, anger and greed destroy man.
