An Ancient Wonder of Gold and Ivory - Part 1

the years went by, the ivory cracked and pouring olive oil over the statue seemed a good idea to prevent further cracking. Historians are not certain but surmise that this was the case because of a deep groove found during excavations running around the statue.

Caligula, Emperor of Rome from 37 to 41 AD, got the idea to transport the statue to Rome four hundred and fifty years after it was built but the statue was supposed to have frightened the work crew off with its cackling laughter.

What happened to the statue? That's the topic of next week's article. I hope you will join me then.
