Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses

Oct 1, 1999 - © Lucy Charlotte Acland Johnson

The gods were worshipped and invented by the settlers who founded the Egyptian civilisation once they had begun to grow together. As Egypt(which was originally two countries called Upper and Lower Egypt)joined together and grew so did the gods.

Some of them went into making other gods (such as Amun-Re) and many began to have more complexed personalities (such as Osiris).

Egypt shaped the gods, but later on the gods shaped Egypt because once most of the gods had fully developed the civilisation looked to them for help, guidance and inspiration. The gods could not have existed without Ancient Egypt, nor Egypt without the gods.
