Egytology More than a job. . .. . . it's more of an obssesion for the lucky soul who happens to be involved. We have all seen the Sunday night specials on The Discovery Channel or The Learning Channel featuring Bob Breyer or Kent Weeks and thought: that would be amazing. But for the few who decide on actually becoming an Egyptologist are facing scorching desert conditions and sometimes the harsh reality that things are just not how they were 2, 000 years ago. The amount of money one is paid to do what they love is also taken into consideration when choosing any social science that involves tedious hours outside of work slaving in the sun. The acedemic term for Egyptology is: the minor academic discipline focusing on a 5,000 year stretch of historical culture along the Nile River. But to the lover of antiquity it is better described with its art and arcitecture. The features of this ancient civilization have mesmerized generation after generation of scholars and lay people with unparalleled continuities that lasted, pretty much unchanged, over immense periods of time. No other culture on earth had anything like the staying power of the classical Egyptian expressions. That is why I believe it takes a very dedicated and focused person to enter this field, but with perseverance and not to mention the skill you will aquire, it is well worth it in the long run.
