The landings of the Saxons continued, in greater numbers. Kent soon became one of the Heptarchy. The famous name of Ethelbert was one of the historic kings of Kent. Ethelbert it was who was the third Bretwalda. Ethelbert it was who gave us his Code of Laws, the first in Britain to be written down with the intention of being followed throughout the kingdom.
