What's The Intent?low-level tools and technology to allow others to build and create - in Amiga's case, provide a rich universe of content. As with current versions of the DE, the intent ADK runs under both x86 Linux (Red Hat 7.2) and Windows. I have the kit, installed from the CD provided with the latest issue of Digital magazine, running on a modest notebook computer - the very same I use to write these articles on (using AmigaForever emulation, naturally). This provides a full environment with which to develop intent software, and by extension support the AmigaDE while we await an updated SDK. Hardly a situation which negatively affects Amiga, surely? One of the pleasant things is that the license allows the ADK to be used for both commercial and non-commercial development, plus open or closed source. I'm not sure how this compares to previous Tao licenses, but this attitude is extremely good to see - far too many companies seem to overlook the fact that they should be encouraging all kinds of development through the use of free and unrestricted developer tools. While we await the AmigaDE, more info has leaked about progress of AmigaOS 4.0 and that development is going well. I won't say too much, but hopefully we'll see something tangible real soon now - and this time, it looks to be a promise rather than a wish...
