Rivertown Bluegrass Society

The Rivertown Bluegrass Society is a South Carolina organization dedicated to preserving and performing live bluegrass music. This was a maturely handsome site. One of the benefits of this organization was that their monthly meetings featured a number of performances. Their winter meeting schedule features an appearance by Rhonda Vincent in January 2002. You can print their membership application and send it in via snail-mail. The archives of their newsletters are available online.

The "Radio" page will lead you to "The Bluegrass Sound," a weekly radio show that airs Sunday nights at 8 pm on the South Carolina Educational radio Network. It can be heard on WHMC as well as other South Carolina stations. The "Links" page is regionally focused and includes other Carolina Bluegrass societies and events.

The Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association of NJ

The Bluegrass & Oldtime Music Association of NJ Inc. is an organization whose purposes are:

  • to preserve and perpetuate the American Heritage of Bluegrass & Oldtime music;
  • to promote the coming together of individuals and groups of all ages, both amateur and professional, who are interested in playing Bluegrass and/or Oltime music on acoustic instruments, either formally, on-stage, or informally, in open jam sessions;
  • to offer workshops for the encouragement of and assistance to those members who may wish to improve their proficiency as performers; and
  • to raise funds to publicize Bluegrass and Oldtime Music.

I'm sorry, I find this site confusing. The "Events"`page lists several venues but doesn't give much info about the shows sponsored by the association itself. A short newsletter is provided online. The "Links" page features an organized list of bluegrass and oldtime music sites. The "radio" page lists some NJ-based radio programs or stations that feature bluegrass or country programs. Lastly the "Bands Schedule" page provides venues where some of the local NJ bands will be appearing.

Navigation around this site is inconspicuously and inconveniently located at the bottom of every page.

Until next time - happy surfin'.
