e-mail to your favorite Curb artists. The audio is in either .wav or .aiff format; the video is available in .mov (Quicktime), mpeg, or .avi formats. In some cases there is a link to an "order screen;" these take you to a choice of links to CDNow, Music Boulevard, or the now defunct 1-800-Music-Now.

If you use the imagemap, watch the status bar at the bottom of your browser. This will help you find the hotspots and give you a hint at where you will be taken. If you want additional assistance, use the help button at the bottom of the browser window. The Jukebox gives you eight selections from different artists in RealAudio format; these are full singles and not just 30-second clips. The Radio section has a selection of stations with web sites; a lot of these looked like college stations. The Blue Plate section is intended to be about breaking artists; unfortunately two of the three listed here are LeAnn Rimes and Jo Dee Messina - hardly new and breaking artists.

To get back to the main screen from any of the artist pages or other sections, all you have to do is close the current window. When I first started looking at this site, the information was fresh. It looks like most of it hasn't been updated in a year. This site is worth exploring but until it gets updated, you won't want to come back.

Plug-Ins and Viewers

This section will be a regular feature each month. I've found a source for the MPEG Audio Player that I use (see below). I heartily recommend this player for the excellent quality.

RealPlayer

RealPlayer plays both audio and video clips. The current version in 5.0. RealPlayer is available for free download while an enhanced version may be purchased. Most sites like this because the clips use a streaming technology that does not require the entire file to download before play begins; it also does not allow the user to save the clip on the computer's hard disk, protecting the artist's copyright.

This is a plug-in that also uses streaming technology for video and audio. Select the correct version based on your operating system.

Quicktime

This is not a plug-in but a player. This allows you to play .mov video files, once downloaded and saved on your hard disk.
