More Back To Basics

Mercury Nashville

Mercury Nashville is the home of such artists as John Anderson, Terri Clark (my personal favorite), Billy Ray Cyrus, Toby Keith, Sammy Kershaw, Kathy Mattea, Kim Richey, Keith Stegall, and (of course) Shania Twain. This record label site is divided into four main sections: artists, tour dates, their catalog, and what's new. We'll deal with them in reverse order.

The "What's New" section contains news and happenings about the various artists on their roster. For example, it talked about Terri Clark touring with Brooks & Dunn during the month of February and spending some time to finish up her next album. Too bad it didn't give a hint about the release date or title. The "catalog" section listed the existing albums of their artists, but doesn't provide an opportunity to purchase them online. It suggests that if you can't find them at your local record store, you ask the store to special order it - not much help!

The "Tour Dates" section contains a schedule of concerts for many of their artists, some going out as far as the summer. The schedules are not that full, but it may be a little early in the year for that. I did note that I've got three opportunities to see Sammy Kershaw this summer without having to travel too far.

The "Artists" section contains bio information, the address of the fan club and any links to either an official artist web site or a fan web site, and album information. There is usually one or two audio clips available either in RealAudio or .wav format. This site is up-to-date and, although not fancy, is worth a bookmark and a regular visit.

Curb Records

Curb Records is the home of such well known artists as Sawyer Brown, Merle Haggard, Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Hank Williams, Jr., and Wynonna. It's also the home of up-and-coming artists Blake & Brian, Junior Brown, Burnin' Daylight, Jeff Carson, David Kersh, Hal Ketchum, Jo Dee Messina, Perfect Stranger, and the Smokin' Armadillos. After you get through the opening screen of approaching headlights (click on the picture to get past it), you'll get to the main menu. On the left hand side you'll see a list of the artists and an imagemap of a drive-in restaurant on the right.

If you use the artist listing, you'll find biography info, album information, audio and (sometimes) video clips, and an opportunity to send e-mail
