Country & Western Music Web Sites: Artist Sites, Part 1

For those readers who have been here before, you know that we are exploring the various types of Country Music sites that can be found on the Web. This the the third in that series; the first article provided information on the various weekly music charts (e.g., Billboard, Radio & Records) and the second article began exploring several of the sites provided by the many record labels (e.g., Capitol Nashville, MCA Nashille). For those of you who are just joining Suite 101 and have an interest in Country Music, I urge you to go back and peruse those articles. In this article, we'll look at some of the official sites provided by several of the Country Music Artists.

Country Music Artist Sites

There are several types of sites on the Web that provide information on Country Music Artists. One set of these are known as Fan sites, in that they are a set of pages provided by a dedicated fan of that artist. Many of these sites are very good and provide useful information and sometimes pictures taken by the fan at various concerts. I'll provide an article on some of these sites in the near future. The other type of Artist sites are those provided by the Artist's fan club or management organization. These sites are the "official" ones for the various artists. In this article, we'll explore the sites of five of the most popular Country Music Artists in the business today.

Brooks & Dunn

Brooks & Dunn are two of the hottest artists in Nashville today; they have been selected Vocal Duo and/or Entertainers of the Year for just about every Country Music award over the past several years.You'd think with all this star power that their web site would be of similar caliber. This however is nyour basic stuff. They have a guestbook you can sign, a tour calendar, a discography section (a listing of his CDs with a list of the songs on each CD), fan club membership info, and a merchandise section that directs you to call an 800 number to order. There is also info on their favorite hobby, car racing. Check it out but these guys could do better.

Tracy Byrd

Tracy Byrd is a male artist who sings in a traditional Western style. Most famous for his single, Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and Famous, Tracy's music includes many Western Swing and Waltz numbers. His Web site provides some interesting features above the usual set found on many sites. Sure, you'll find the usual stuff: bio information, tour information, a discography, and merchandise information. But beyond that, you'll find a collection of Tracy Byrd photos that you can view and download, information on various upcoming media appearances, press releases, a mailing list subscription and information on his favorite hobby, fishing, and on the Tracy Byrd lure that is available in sporting good stores.
