While still actively performing, he has built a country music business that includes an open air ampitheatre and an AM radio station. His web site reflects all three of these components. Living less than two hours from Straustown, Pennsylvania, I am particularly interested in the concert schedule at the ampitheatre, located just off of Interstate Highway 78. While 1998 was a little sparse, the 1999 schedule includes Steve Wariner, Wade Hayes, John Anderson, Joe Diffie, Bryan White and Charlie Daniels among others. The Pat Garrett band section includes a local performance schedule and a list of albums made by Pat and his band. There is an online ordering section that allows one to order either concert tickets or CDs and tapes, although the link is not as obvious as it could be. It does not appear that credit card information is encrypted using SSL; you must assess your risk on your own in transmitting this sensitive information. Another section provides a link to the separate web site for WWSM, a local AM country radio station owned by Pat Garrett in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. There is some general programming information that provides some interesting background. There is also a schedule of the various programs, featuring different types of country music, including bluegrass, mountain folk, classic country and top 10 countdown shows. Pat Garrett's site is not the typical artist site. There are no audio clips and only limited information on his artistry. The radio site also provides limited information about itself and maybe that correctly reflects its size. It is worth a visit, particularly if you live within a reasonable distance of the area. EditorialFour years ago, the people of Oklahoma City suffered a terrible tragedy. A year later, Garth Brooks took out a full page ad in Billboard magazine asking radio stations to observe a moment of silence and/or play an appropriate song on the anniversary of this senseless loss of life. This ad provided me with the inspiration that resulted in a web-based memorial asking all to pray for an end to violence. Given the recent events in Littleton, Colorado, we need to renew this effort.
