Amanda Wilson, Century of Country and NetRadio

This month, we'll look at the web site of a young, promising country artist, Amanda Wilson. We'll also explore the site that is hawking Country.Com's upcoming CD-ROM, Century of Country. I also have a brief recommendation on an internet audio site you might want to check out. So, hold onto your cowboy hats and let's get started.

Amanda Wilson

Amanda Wilson is an unknown, new country artist. She has two albums out: Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind, a country album, and Angels, a gospel album. A review of the country album is available at Country Music Viewpoint as well as several other sites. Overall the album is well produced and a commendable effort as a launching point for what I feel is a promising career.

The web site is pretty basic. The navigation through the site is consistent with both graphics and text links presented toward the bottom on each page. The location is a little redundant and forces you to go through each page; this might be intentional, but it would have been nicer to have something towards the top of the page. There is the customary Bio information. The Tour Dates are historical and indicate that Amanda is not currently on tour. This probably because she's still in high school and schoolwork should come first. The Photos section contain pictures of Amanda and her band at various venues including Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Nashville (impressive!). The Fan Club page gives one information on using snail mail to join her fan club, but does allow you to send e-mail to Amanda.

The Sounds page allows you to listen to audio clips of various lengths (~36 seconds to slightly over a minute) in either WAV or RealAudio formats. I'm assuming the first clip is from her Angels album since it's not on the country album. Bad Loser is the single currently being pushed to radio; it's written by Pam Tillis and Bill Lloyd. The best song on the album is Southern Cookin', written by Mac Davis. If you like what you hear, you'll have to go to the Products page to order her album(s); they're not available at any of the usual internet CD sites.

Country.Com's Century of Country

Due out April 6th, Century of Country is being touted as the "definitive Country Music Encyclopedia CD-ROM." Assembled by Country musicologist Barry McCloud, the product is being launced by DreamWorks Records Nashville and TNN.
