It is not difficult to figure out why these generals took such risks. They had been through three years of this bloody struggle, and the will to end it grew every day. It is understandable that these generals, all brilliant leaders, would have felt that perhaps they could have ended the War sooner by taking part in the actual fighting. Though this was not the case, one can't help but admire these men for brilliance, level-headedness, and yes, their death wishes.
