This week I would like to provide you with information on subscribing to two Alzheimer's Discussion Groups
These e-mail discussions may be called Listservs, Newsgroups, E-mail Lists, and several other names. In essence, they are a way to communicate with others who share a common interest. I will provide you with the related web sites, and instructions on how to subscribe to these groups. E-mail discussion groups can be a wonderful way to network with other Alzheimer's caregivers. You can contribute to discussions on a particular topic, ask questions, share your experiences and gain valuable knowledge. There are literally hundreds of these groups on the Internet covering a wide variety of subjects. For the first-time user, the use of these lists can be somewhat intimidating. But once you have learned how to access them and contribute to them, you will have opened up a whole new world of communication. Groups such as these are particularly useful for the person who has no local support group or who lives a distance away from one. The volume of mail you may receive may vary from 20 to 40 letters per day or per week. Some lists can be overwhelming. If you find you are receiving more mail than you care to receive, many lists provide a digest service. This can reduce your mail load substantially. You always have the option to discontinue the service at any time. The first discussion group is the Alzheimer Discussion Group from WUSTL University. To subscribe to this list you must send an e-mail message to majordomo@wubios.wustl.edu. The message must contain the following in the first line of the message body subscribe Alzheimer firstname lastname Subscription instructions can also be found here. The second discussion group is the Alzheimer's List provided by Listserv. To subscribe to this group send an e-mail to Listserv@Listserv.ACSU.BUFFALO. In the body of your message type SUBSCRIBE SP - ALZHEIMERS - LIST. This group provides an archive that you may access. The instruction and description pages for this list may be found here. When you reach this page type in Alzheimer's. These e-mail discussion groups are open to patients, caregivers, researchers, health professionals, students and anyone interested in Alzheimer's. I hope you find these e-mail groups helpful. *Editor's Note* Over the next few weeks, I will be presenting articles on Alzheimer's drugs and alternative medicines. I look forward to your input on these important topics.
