A Second Anniversary ReviewAugust 19, 1999 marks my second anniversary as the Alzheimer's Disease editor here at Suite101.com. It has been a labor of love for me as I am very interested in Alzheimer's. I recently went back to work part time at a nursing home near my house and it has been a joy to be back among the elderly whom I enjoy caring for. In the past two years we have seen new medications that slow the progress of Alzheimer's. New emphasis on specialized Alzheimer's care units has increased. Research is ongoing with some interesting new theories on causes, potential new treatments, drugs and progressive ideas in caring for those with this devastating disease. My articles have covered many topics in the past two years. Information on drugs, nursing homes, legal matters, caregiving and many other topics have been covered. I have started a Support Board which has been well received. Author Frena Gray-Davidson joined this topic as a consultant for caregivers and I am pleased and honored to have her working with me. My mailing list continues to grow to keep readers informed of new articles and changes to the site. All in all, it has been a productive and exciting two years for me. In the coming months I am planning to update links, update older articles, present more research, add new resources, and Frena and I hope to present an online workshop for caregivers. If you have any ideas or suggestions to help me provide the best information on Alzheimer's please feel free to e-mail me at niniane@cablecomm-pa.com. I welcome all suggestions. I hope I have been of service to you and will strive to continue to provide you with the best information available from books, the internet and other sources to keep you well informed. I want to thank all those faithful readers who have supported this topic over the last two years. I will be presenting articles in the future detailing personal accounts of my work with Alzheimer's patients. It's been a wonderful two years and I am looking forward to many more as your Alzheimer's editor. Sincerely, Karen L. Largent, LPN
