The doctors figure I have eight years left - not with a terrific quality of life, but eight years. We don't really want to do a lot of predicting, though. It's hard enough dealling with today. I know what my future is.

The only hope I have is that my children and millions of others will ever have to face what I am facing. This hope depends upon continued research, so that a cure for Alzheimer's can be found. I have told my children that I do not believe they will have to go through it themselves. But if there isn't enough money for research, my son and my daughter, my nieces and nephews and generations to come will be doomed to continued suffering.


Mrs. Powers was a mere three years older than me when she was diagnosed. This article moved me, scared me, saddened me and inspired me. I have made initial contact with Family Circle in the hopes that perhaps we can start a fund in her name for donations to research on early Alzheimer's.
