The Long hair is long gone but Metallica is still Metallica! The recently
set out promoting their new album "Load" and all we've heard is how they've
sold out to the alternative sound, this clearly stems from their lack of
long hair as many writers assume you must have long hair to play Metal.
Well maybe not but whatever the reason I don't see it, as Metallica has
been slowing mellowing their sound ever since "Kill Em All" Yes,
every album they put since day one has slowly mellowed out, now clearly
they've not become Hootie and the Blowfish, thank god for that, but we
should consider that alternative, and specifically grunge has evovled
to sound more like Metallica. Think of Soundgarden did you know they once
won a major music award for the metal album of the year of course they
were confused by this but needless to say the jump between grunge and
metal isn't all that far so before you relabel Metallica as sellouts
remember they've been evolving for a long time now and surely aren't
done yet.
