Soundtracks: Quick Cash or Good Music!

It today's music industry the easiest quick sell has become the soundtrack. Put together a bunch of "hot" new bands and put out a CD for a movie, TV show or even a video game. Based on my experience, I'd avoid these as they're simply a commercial label's attempt at quick cash. Soundtracks like "Friends," "The X Files," and "Mortal Kombat" exemplify this ideology as all these are extremely popular to today's youth who will quickly snag up the next "cool" CD. Often enough soundtracks include music that isn't even associated with the object it's supposed to relate to.

Though one soundtrack that came out right as the beginning of this trend still arrives in my CD player to this day, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Yes, it's true not only was the movie a cult classic but the soundtrack is packed with good music. Extreme has a fun track on it "Play With Me," but this is a CD that you can really listen to top to bottom. Its high point is by Big Pig and the track is called "I Can't Break Away," if you have a chance to listen to this CD please do so as it's a long time favorite of mine. So I wish I could say avoid soundtracks completely, but on a rare occasion you'll find a gem, so give them a good listen before you buy.
