CD Baby!

Well, if you're looking to buy a CD online I'm sure you've at least heard of the big stores like CD Now, CD Universe, or MusicBlvd, but where do you go to get your independent CDs? One things for sure most of these stores can't help you at all when looking for that hard-to-find independent release.

You can try the Local Music Store. They carry a variety of independent releases. Another site featuring independent music is Planet CD but it seems to have a very limited selection. Artica, another store, faces the same problem of having a small catalog. Indie Ocean appears to have the largest catalog of them all but doesn't explain how a band gets their product listed and has had very little exposure. You might also check out Extreme Media though their site is Shockwave driven so it is difficult to use (especially if you don't have Shockwave).

From looking over all these sites it's evident the Internet is still searching for a site that carries a large amount of independent music and makes it easy for an artist to have their product listed. The Local Music Store, Planet CD, and Artica all invite artists to sell their product online but none of these currently carry a large catalog. At most they carry a few hundred items.

The latest addition to the online independent CD store market is CD Baby! In fact it is just preparing to launch but at the present time, much like other online Independent CD stores, it appears to have a very small catalog.

Hopefully in time one of these sites will come to carry a vast catalog of independent music because, despite the Internet's ability to help the little guy, it is still very difficult to just find the little guy on the Internet.
