Artist of the Month: Brownie Mary

If you haven't heard of Brownie Mary yet, you will soon. Because led by Kelsey Barber's energetic vocals and amazing stage presence this band is going places. This Pittsburgh band has paid their dues by playing hundreds of shows a year as well as playing the Philadelphia Music Conference and through all this have grown a large fan based and sold thousands of albums.

"Naked", their major label debut, has the quality to break big and is screaming to be played on modern-rock radio stations (and in fact some tracks are being played on modern-rock stations now). The album was produced by Kevin Moloney who has worked with Sinead O'Connor, U2 and his experience shines through as the production quality of the album is excellent and allows for every song to jump out as a possible single.

The title track "Naked" is a funky yet alluring track that draws you in and reveals much of Brownie Mary's ability as a band. Another strong track on the album is "Butterfly," as it too seems poised for modern-rock radio. But to pick just any track, as the best on this album is unwise, as it is strong from top to bottom.

Brownie Mary seems to have all the credentials to be the next band to break a strong album, a great following and an even better stage presence. Grab this CD before everyone on you block does as there's no doubt it's a good one.
