1996 in Review

Well, everyone does a year in review so here's mine. Michael Jackson to be a dad. Madonna as mom! Alternative in or is it out? Tupac's death despite his success. Drugs - aren't they always a big impact on the music industry every year. Smashing Pumpkings on top despite their huge losses. No more Hooties?..only if we're lucky. The rise of women in the music industry. Look at Garbage, No Doubt, Alanis Morisette, and Tori Amos they've all had good years and left a mark on the music industry.

Then there's MTV being dropped by TCI in parts of the midwest, though while in the 80's I'd of called this a loss for the music industry now in the 90's we can all do without "The Real World." The most ironic event of 1996 has to be the launch of MTV2, you know the station that is going to show videos 24 hours a day, isn't that what MTV was supposed to be anyway?

Well what might be the biggest happening in the music industry is the rise of the world wide web. The web has opened opportunities for many an artist and will play a larger and larger role in the music industry each year. So check out some great women musicians on the world wide web this year as I'm sure they'll be playing a big role in music next year.

Here's one to get you started, her name is Haze and she has a killer ep with one of my favorite tracks "Tom Dooley."
