February looks to be a busy month for Alternative releases.
The biggest release of the month might just be Pearl Jam who is back with
"Yield." Halt! Stop for a moment. Don't be looking for "Ten" or "Vs"
because they've gone down a long a winding road from that path and aren't
looking back as Pearl Jam has clearly changed direction.
Hum follows up the semi-hit "You'd Prefer an Astronaut" with "Downward is Heavenward" and at first listen it seems to have potential. On the solo front this months releases are also looking interesting. James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins has his solo debut "Let It Come Down" coming out, and although early reviews seem almost shocked at its eclectic and very not pumpkin like sound it is at least an interesting side piece for Pumpkins fans. Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses fame has solo release, "Strange Angels," coming this month as well and it's sure to spark the interest of a few college radio fans. Indie champion Ani DiFranco has "Little Plastic Castle" coming out this month and it is poised for a break through with Alana Davis' cover of Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors" receiving considerable airplay and bringing expanding attention to Ani Difranco's work. Further early reviews of this work praise it for it's creativity. So I'd say hit the stores this month there's something for everyone. But be prepared as some old favorites are singing a slightly different tune. PS to see what else is coming our this month visit ICE Magazine. Go To Page: 1
