I've mention these guys a couple of times in the past and with
them I'd like to start a new tradition here at Suite 101. Each month I
plan on bringing you great new bands that hopefully won't be the flavor of
the month, but who will be leaving lasting impressions on the music
industry.
The Gufs come to you straight out of Milwaukee Wisconsin, and are still dedicated to those people who helped them on their way up, as they continue to support the Milwaukee music scene. To describe "The Gufs" sound I'd have to say they are masters of today's pop driven alternative. For anyone who's ever seen Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum you must appreciate the energy he brings to the stage and that's how Goran Kralj performs too! Some bands come out, play their tracks, posture a bit and move on, whereas "The Gufs" take the time after each show to say hi, sign just about anything you want signed, and most importantly give a little back. From what I've heard and experienced they're always extremely nice after their shows and truly care what you have to say. Their current self-title release which is also their major label debut consists of thirteen solid tracks that will soon be hitting air waves across the country. "Everybody Wants to see their Face on MTV" is a lyric in their song "Sunday Driver" which points out that the music industry revolves around getting played on MTV. And taken a step further, to be on MTV means that you've finally made it or that you have become "somebody." "The Gufs" are a great band finally given a shot at the big time. It's long over due so let's hope soon we'll see Goran, Morgan, Dejan, Brian, and Scott on MTV, because even though I already view them as "somebody," not many other people view them this way. And "The Gufs" truly are "somebody." For more information on "The Gufs" stop by their web site at: http://www.atlantic-records.com/the_gufs/
