Lyrics

Several key components make up good music: emotion, energy and most importantly, smart, intelligent lyrics. To me, intelligent lyrics show how much time and effort a band put into their work, and if it's obvious that they only spent five minutes on a song then I won't give them my time either. Far too often in today's Alternative music, songs with decent energy and crappy lyrics become big hits.

It is because of this that many fans enjoy reading and then debating the merits of popular songs. I know I do.

Bands like The Presidents of the United States and The Flaming Lips often come up when I discuss poor lyrics and it would be nice if I could back this assertion up with the lyrics quickly and easily. So I did a bit of searching to find lyric sites for many of today's popular bands. And this is what I found: Grendel's Lyric Archive has a wide range of lyrics from bands like Toto to Smashing Pumpkins. Polystyreneman's Lyrics Database has a short list of lyrics but it is highly focused on today's Alternative music. Lyrics Central, much like Grendel's Lyric Archive, has a wide range of lyrics spanning genre and time. Unfortunately, a large in-depth resource doesn't seem to be out there. If you have a suggestion for lyrics sites please post it as these sites cover the surface but don't go much below it.
