For those of you unfamiliar with CMJ here's the deal. CMJ is the College
Music Journal, it's the magazine that most every college station in the
US and Canada report their playlist to and most record labels follow
religiously so they can find out what's hot and what's not on the college
scene. Its important for labels to follow what's hot or not on college
radio because nine times out of ten what is popular at the college radio
level is what will be the hot artist in the mainstream soon. And of
course college students represent a large part of their target audience
as they buy lots of music.
You might also hear people refer to CMJ as a concert or an event and this is correct as well. Every year CMJ holds the CMJ Music Fest in New York where hundreds of bands play over the course of a weekend, and music industry professionals give lectures and share ideas. Bands such as Live at one time played at the CMJ Music Fest, and this is what makes is a music lovers dream event which should be attended if possible. Though, it might be overwhelming considering the shear amount of events going on. For quite sometime CMJs web presences has been less then spectacular. It used a bells and whistles approach to web design, including an abundance of frames that ruined any hope of functionality. But, Im writing this month about CMJ because recently they've updated their site making it both user friendly and content rich. So now CMJ is more then just a magazine for music industry folks, now the music lover can stop by and see what its all about. It has now been added to my list of links, and Id suggest you stop by and explore for yourself. Go To Page: 1
