Lilith

As I sit here listening to Tori Amos it astounds me just how far women have come in recent years especially within the music industry. Far too often I point out how the music industry reflects the negative aspects of society but oddly this year the music industry is reflecting a positive aspect of modern society. In the US we've seen the rise of profesional women's basketball and now in the music industry the talk is all about Lilith Fair. Not to mention female artists receiving plenty of airtime and taking over the charts.

Unlike most "alternative" music festivels running around the country Lilith Fair truely focuses on the music and apposed to those other festivels it's not about posturing or, my personal favorite, starting a mosh pit. It is about music. It is about the message. And in this case it is about the furthering of women via the music which only makes it just that much more special. Beyond the social implications of successful women in the music industry, how can you go wrong with a lineup that includes the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, The Cardigans, Indigo Girls, Jewel, Fiona Apple, and Tracy Chapman. Each with a unique sound and style. The diversity of styles is draw enough for me and it should be for you as well. Now if I could just get them to come to Iowa! Oh well, but if Lilith Fair comes to your neighborhood don't miss it!
