The Art of the Press Pack

Every day I get all sorts of CDs in the mail and normally they come with a press pack, which again normally includes some press clippings, probably, a band bio, and band picture. Basically just enough information to sell you on the band and give you an idea of their sound. So I thought I'd clue you in a little bit on some interesting press packs I've received recently, as they deserve comment.

First was a press pack I received from a fan that wants me to review Seo Tajii's new CD. This press pack did include the standard bio. But it went well beyond the standard with full lyric sheets, a floppy of photos, a spare CD of older works, and the entire box was covered with an assortment of pictures and stickers. This really was more interesting than the standard and showed me how much a fan enjoys this artists music. The fact that a regular fan put this together really adds a bit of interest to the press pack to me as it's from a fans perspective.

Now, for the second press pack. Well where do I start? Matt Zane. The infamous Matt Zane, of Zane Entertainment, as in Adult Entertainment! So in addition to the standard, press clippings, pictures, and so on, came vides and slides. Needless to say there's one press pack I won't soon forget!

The extreme spectrum of these press packs illustrates to me just how diverse music can be. From the most innocent enjoyment of a fan to the bizarreness of the latest musical genre, porn-music! Anyhow I just felt I've give you all a look into the interesting world of the music industry.
