As I mentioned in an article not too long ago I was chosen to help pick the 1998 IDN Indie Artist of the Year. And after numerous delays and after weeks of waiting I've finally decided on my pick for the 1998 IDN Indie Artist of the Year. Now as of yet I don't know who the overall winner was but MY pick is: Radio Free America.
The finalists for this great honor were Radio Free America Rubydiver, Commonbond, Click, Lunar Plexus, Accomplice, Warm, Shunt, Green & Checkers, and Betty in Black. Before this contest I'd never heard of any of these bands so they all started on equal footing with me. And it was interesting as many, many different styles were represented. From harmonic rock to industrial these bands covered the spectrum. But quickly Radio Free America jumped out as the most polished band. To give you a feel for Radio Free America they mix together sounds of 80's electronic and 90's industrial from track to track and mix them well, at that. And if you listen carefully you can hear some Nine Inch Nails influences and possibly Depeche Mode influences within the music. And the best part is it just works. All in all Radio Free America is on to something and I wouldn't be surprised to hear them on a commercial station near you in the not too distant future... Go To Page: 1
