More on College Radio!

© David Reid

Last week I turned your dial way on down to the bottom and exposed you to the world of college radio. This week I'd like to continue on the same thread and hopefully program college radio into your stereo.

Right off the bat you'll realize that no two college stations are the same. Some may sound a lot like your "Alternative" station (hopefully not), but for the most part college radio will truly be on the cutting edge of new music -- which incidentally is the only thing that is constant between them.

From song to song it can, and most often will, vary in genres mixing in ska, trip-hop, folk, punk, industrial, surf, lounge, world beat, new age, jazz, blues, and whatever else your ears long for. Additionally, many of those great bands playing in a local bar near you receive their only quality airplay on college stations.

Yes, some "Alternative" stations have their "Indie" show but most of them take place at 1am on a Monday night when nobody is listening, and last all of ten minutes. So I hope you've taken the time to program your local college station in on your dial and give them a listen.
