The biggest rave on the www has to be the hype over streaming audio and
now video. Real Audio, Shockwave...and so on allow for realtime audio to be
heard over the Internet. Unfortunately for music, the sound quality of
these audio services is still quite limited. Often the bass
is quite flat. Where streaming audio is more then effective is in the
arena of sports broadcasts and special events that might not be carried
world wide. Never miss your favorite team. For services like this you
might check out Audio Net. Though,
realtime audio does allow the independent artist to have his
music heard worldwide, and as the technology improves it stands to be yet
another benefit to the music industry. One site that is using streaming
technology to create a "jukebox" of new music with wide ranging styles is
the Athensnet Jukebox. So
although it's not yet CD quality streaming audio could be the next big
boost to the independent music community.
