Sex...Wow the new issue of Penthouse, is what crossed my mind when the August 20th issue of Rolling Stone arrived in my mailbox. Honestly. Now I know it's nothing new to use sex to sell magazines (or anything) but the cover of Rolling Stone was just so painfully blatant. I also know that Rolling Stone really isn't a music magazine anymore as it reaches into politics, television, as well as current events but was I surprised when Laetitia Casta bared all to the world. And then a funny thing happened today, the October 1st issue of Rolling Stone arrived and again there was a half-naked lady (Janet Jackson) on the cover. Though this is nothing new for Janet and I'm sure she's hoping to sell a few more albums herself. The irony comes from one of the cover stories as it discusses Courtney Love's new album "Celebrity Skin." Does that just seem too perfect? Additionally, this issue had numerous letters from readers who were in fact enraged over the August 20th issue and I'd just suggest if you're truly interested in music don't buy Rolling Stone. It all too often focuses on the "Sex" part of "Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll" and if you're more interested in "Rock 'n' Roll' then look to the web. Even magazines like CMJ, which have taken a lot of heat for being a bit commercial, still focus on the music.
