The Bulbs of Hill View Rare Plants Part 1
Here is my good friend Marcus Harvey's Bulb list. As he does not have internet access, I feel it my solemn duty to publish this for your consideration. I know I'm always suggesting, to grow bulbs from seed; but with the realistically cheap prices on these top draw items, frankly, why grow them from seed? Hill View Rare plants has been trading for six years now, enriching the lives of a limited clientel; who manage to comb through the small adds in Your Garden Magazine and write off to Marcus. Those of you who have ordered can testify to the quality of the bulbs and the generosity of Marcus. At sending time, he always manages to tuck in extra little surprises to delight the buyer. When the parcel from Hillview arrives, it is as though Christmas has come. Exciting news this year, Marcus will be putting out a mid year Lilium List, which we will also be posting here at Alpines and Bulbs. So Australia, regardless of where you are gardening, the following list has at least something you can grow. Most of his bulbs and corms are only listed on expensive seed lists from overseas. All are healthy and keenly priced, allowing us all to try for the first time; the harder to find bulbs. Even if you feel your climate will not sustain for many growing seasons, because you fear you might be too hot; then this is the list for you. At these wonderful prices, one can grow them for a season or two and thank ones lucky stars at the privilege of flowering. Allow them to set seed, then collect this seed and grow on to perhaps produce a race more accepting to your climate. Though for me, I choose just to order again, and allow this goodly grower the worries of producing flowering size bulbs from seed for us.
Greetings from Hill View in this suitably stirring Centenary year! Increased other work commitments has reduced the overall size of this year's list but please be assured not its quality nor its interest. Some rare bulbs are on offer for the collector as well as a good range of garden performers for those who want something different without the "ouch" factor! Some items are in short supply so please order early and provide a few substitutes.
