In the Pink with Dianthus:

  • Dianthus 'Mrs Sinkins pink', the pink form of this old scented favourite. This is a densely mat forming plant. This comes from the Eastern Alps. be aware of it's spread!

  • Dianthus 'Mrs Sinkins' white, pure white double flowers with a strong clove scent. Spring and summer flowering, 30cm. This is a very early hybrid, dating back to 1810, I think and hope this is correct.

  • Dianthus myrtinervius (syn.D.myrtinervus) A semi trailing, semi prostrate; low cushion former, having numerous pink flowers. 8cm. To keep this nice and compact, don't give it rich soils; keep it lean.

  • Dianthus 'Nyewoods Cream, is a choice little dianthus with cream flowers on fine 15cm semi prostrate stems. Before English readers hound me, it never stays on short 10cm stems here down under.

  • Dianthus 'Pike's Pink' has glorious cushions of grey green leaves which can form over time wide mats, think ahead and plan the planting of this. Heavily perfumed flowers, during spring and summer; these are double. 10cm. This is fairly tolerant of wet winters too.

  • Dianthus pindicola, forms a dense tuft of tiny grey leaves. Rose red flowers on short stems.

  • Dianthus subacaulis ssp. brachyanthus, forms a tight cushion with carmine pink flowers held on stems up to 15cm high.

As I said, this is a cop out article, it ends here; time beats me again.

There are many good nurseries here in Australia selling these, if you would like further help; please post in the discussion off this article.
