Tasmanian grown Liliums and Hellebores

Greetings Web Gardeners and welcome to Hill View's third winter catalogue. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Sue Wallbank who is my partner on the winter part of Hill View's offerings. Most of the lilies and hellebores are now raised on her Fern Tree nursery where they benefit from the cooler, shadier conditions particularly over the hotter summer period. Between the both of us we have built up a fine collection of liliums from all parts of the world as well as an extensive hellebore breeding program. Our aim is to provide as many lilium species as possible in future catalogues as well as a quality range of hellebores from reliable colour strains.

This year we are offering a slightly expanded list that includes some genuinely rare and valuable lily species and some exciting hellebores, many of which are the result of close hand pollination for colour type. We hope that you may be able to find one or two gems from our offerings and that if you are new to the world of lilies then maybe you will that this opportunity to begin a journey into this group of beautiful and fascinating plants.

All bulbs and plants are subject to crop and are mainly in small numbers - very few means less than 20 bulbs. We have many bulbs too few in numbers to list so its always worth an inquiry - there may be one or two available.

LILIUM:

These bulbs are amongst the most beautiful plants that can be grown in the gardens of the temperate world. Their striking flowers, stunning perfume and exotic origins all contribute to the mystique, the miracle that is the "Queen of all flowers". On offer below is a modest range of wonderful garden worthy species, some are outstanding aristocrats in their genus. Almost all are best grown in acid or neutral soil in a cool root run where plants can ascend into sunny conditions for a good portion of the day.

L. auratum Very fragrant huge outward facing bowl-shaped flowers, sometimes as many as 20, held on a strong stem growing up to 1.5m in height. Each flower segment is white with a central yellow band and generally spotted crimson or yellow. Beautiful native species from Japan. Very few to go. FS/ 1 st $6.00

Lilium aurelian hybrid "Golden Clarion" A wonderfully vigorous and reliable grex growing growing upwards of 2m in suitable conditions. Strongly erect stems are clothed in scattered narrow leaves and can carry as many as 15 thickly sculptured trumpets. These are widely flaring at the mouth and sometimes mildly rolled back and can range from deep gold to buttery yellow often stained dark red on the exterior.
