This month I am taking a look at some additional allergy sites on the Internet.
Allergic Child.com is a wonderful resource for parents of allergic children. It contains general allergy information as well as tips on issues of particular importance to parents - school considerations, behavior problems, etc. Also, one of the site owners, Nicole Smith, has written an allergy book for children, Allie the Allergic Elephant. The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (formerly known as The Food Allergy Network) has two new sites: one for kids and another for teens. FANKids has some basic allergy facts, tips, an advice column, school project ideas, and activities such as coloring pages and puzzles. FANTeens has articles, discussions, a newsletter, and an advice column for teens. The site addresses some of the particular problems teens may encounter in handling their food allergies. Articles discuss Dating and Food Allergies, Dining Out, etc. Another food allergy site is PeanutAllergy.com which is the home page of an advocacy group for those with severe peanut allergies. They offer information, discussion boards, and allergy alerts. Avoiding Corn offers a wealth of information on dealing with a corn allergy. Subjects include: corn-derived ingredients to avoid, problematic food products, and a link to a discussion forum. This page is maintained by a corn allergy sufferer. Allergy and Asthma FAQ Home Page has information on many different types of allergies, a list of links, and recipes. Recipes include ones for wheat-free chocolate chip cookies and wheat-free brownies. Some people with food sensitivities also have a problem with candida yeast infections. Dr. William G. Crook's site at http://www.candida-yeast.com focuses on this topic. Allergy and Asthma Network-Mothers of Asthmatics, Inc. primarily offers printed resources for its members, but also has some information on its site as well. HealingWell.com is already in my List of Links and, in fact, some of my past articles are reprinted in their Allergy Resource Center. It also offers other articles, links, book reviews, a newsletter, and a message board. Allergy-Free Gardening - I have already featured this site in several articles, but its worth another mention. This page offers information on Thomas Ogren's book Allergy-Free Gardening which I reviewed in my October 2000 article. Ogren suggests a revolutionary approach to landscaping in order to reduce allergens. If you have any comments concerning allergies, please use the discussion link below. Go To Page: 1
