Last week we talked about the Shetland Islands. This week I want to talk more about my home on the Shetlands. My husband and I are the proud owners of Eshaness Lighthouse Keeper's accommodations. It can be found on the Northwest coast of the main Shetland Island. Our home was built in 1929 by David A Stevenson to warns ships of notorious reefs that lie off-shore such as Ve Skerries on which many a seafarer has come to grief.
Many have asked me why we bought a lighthouse and I have tried to answer that in one of my columns.
Eshaness is in the part of the Shetlands known as Northmaven. Almara provides an excellent site with a good map and many pictures including one of my favorite neighbors - the puffins.
The area is a wild place which has many furious Atlantic storms. On one of the sites I found a great storm picture.
I recently spent my first extended period of time there and recorded my impression in The Window. Being such a beautiful place I too have taken pictures and you can some of mine here.
