The castle is a popular spot for photographer. Here are some of the best pictures on the web: Transcotland.com, fido.de, and nordrhein.net. The .camelotintl.com web site has interior shots of Earl John's Room, entrance hall and the Duke's Corridor. The Duke retains the only private army in the British Isles, known as the Atholl Highlanders. The 80-strong army, composed mainly of estate workers, still fulfills certain ceremonial duties. It is the sole survivor of the clan system of pre-army days, when the king relied on each chief to bring out his clan forces in order to raise an army. The annual parade of Atholl Highlanders which is held in late May gives visitors a unique opportunity to see the Duke of Atholl's private army. A North American band has been formed to play the music of the regiment and their is even a song which carries their name, The Atholl Highlanders' Farewell to Loch Katrine. If you would like to visit then you will find all of the tourist information here. There are some interesting places to stay in the area such as these cottages.
