Edinburgh castle is perched at the top of Castle Rock and is impressive from all sides. This site gives you a good view of the elevated location along with some other good views of the Castle - as does these two sites: Site 1 and Site 2. I found this site to have the best all-around set of pictures of the castle. As early as the 11th-century the buildings atop Castle Rock were favoured as a residence by royalty, in particular Margaret, the Queen of Malcolm III and her sons. She died in the castle. The castle alternated between Scottish and English forces and in 1313 suffered demolition by the Scots. A popular legend is about a daring raid led by Sir William Douglas, the legendary "Knight of Liddesdale, in 1333. In the late 14th-century Bruce's son, David II, built a tower of which tere are no visible remains on the site of the Half Moon Battery. The infamous Black Dinner of 1440 resulted in the execution of the two young Douglas brothers in the presence of their 10-year-old sovereign, James II, in an attempt to quell Douglas power. James II was born, crowned, married and buried in Edinburgh but it was his son James III who formally recognized the city as his capital.
This site will give you a good perspective of the historic background a well as the modern activities in the castle.
Their are many things to see at the Castle like The castle is only one of Edinburgh attractions city and this site has a wonderful cyber tour.
