A - G Steps to Regain Your Power! (1 of 3)

There's something about the start of a new year that inspires change. It's a time to forgive, let go of past hurts, and regain your power.

Anxiety is often a result of carrying around excess baggage that does nothing but drain you of power & energy. Despite how it no longer fits, leaving a familiar past can be tough. Yet, you'll find that as you gradually loosen your grip, while continuing to move forward, it becomes easier to make the final break. That is when you'll begin to feel lighter, and as a result more powerful.

Every adversity in life helps you to grow. Sometimes life's greatest lessons come masterfully disguised as painful life experiences. But, no matter how bad it's been, there's always hope for restoration and taking your power back when you feel it's been stolen.

Is there something inside of you screaming for change; perhaps ending a dead-end relationship, improving your health, or taking an uncomfortable risk? It's a new year, and it's time to regain your power, so that you CAN fuel those important life changes.

I'd like to spend this first month, introducing some A-to-Z concepts on ways to enhance your sense of power.

Assertion. Nothing escalates anxiety like non-assertiveness. When you lack assertiveness, it allows others to walk all over you, as you surrender the control of the situation to others. Being assertive means standing up for your personal rights and expressing your thoughts, feelings and beliefs directly, honestly and spontaneously in ways that don’t infringe on the rights of others. Assertive people respect themselves and others. They take responsibility for their actions and choices. In case of failure, they will get disappointed; but their self-confidence remain intact. Expressing negative feelings at the appropriate time avoids the buildup of resentment. By learning to become more assertive, you'll greatly reduce your anxiety & enhance your power.

Breathing: One of the most effective ways to relax at the end of a stressful day is to do some abdominal breathing. Put on some relaxing music or nature sounds (the sound of rain or ocean waves). Dim the lights or turn them off. Stretch out on the bed or sofa and roll your shoulders around a few times. Now, focus on your breathing.

Take note of the following:

  • Is your breathing rhythmic?
