The Five Realizations.

Honesty is often the best policy. Some of you may not be ready to tell people that your agoraphobic- this is completely personal. You do need to feel ready and strong enough to take any losses that may come from telling people. However, if you are always stressed about coming events and how you're going to cope, or constantly wondering what excuse can you use now; it may be time. Telling people about your agoraphobia doesn't mean that you need to tell the world. Perhaps there are just a few people in your life that should know. I understand too well that the outcome of this might not be as positive as you had hoped. Some people might slowly become less and less of a figure in your life, but the important people won't. In doing this it is also good to remind yourself that it can be hard for people to relate and understand, if someone told me there were scared of grass for example I may not quite understand either. To a person who has had no experience of severe anxiety your tale might seem a little odd also. Some people may need some time, others a little educating and some may accept things straight away. It is a great step in your recovery, however, when you can tell people and it's out in the open. Remind yourself also that people can't support and help you if you don't give them the opportunity.

Finally, the best realization of all - There is hope, I can recover! This can be really hard to realize when you are in the depths of agoraphobia, but it is so important. It can take quite awhile to find the right tools, inspiration, medication or other help for you. But don't lose hope, there are many successful recovery stories. Agoraphobia is a treatable condition. Don't lose hope, hold onto your true friends and keep working on your recovery.

In this article I have very briefly covered a number of issues. I will in the future write more in-depth articles on most of these topics. I hope this article has given you a little inspiration or food for thought. Don't hesitate to start a discussion, or to email me about anything- I'm always here.
