Almost Home

road to Hancock
Well, it has been a busy month. Lots of changes. I have found a house, put a bid in on it (and had it accepted) and will hopefully be able to move in by early September. Life is strange indeed. With the encouragement and help of a couple of friends, I decided to follow a different road, to look up north of my present location, where houses are considerably cheaper than the other places I was looking. Much to my surprise, I liked Hancock. For some reason, I had thought it was going to be smaller than Callicoon, but it is actually a larger town. One of my very favorite things about it is that mail is delivered to the house there. It has been quite a while since mail has come to my door and post office boxes and agoraphobia are just not a good mix. So I'm very excited about that. Funny the things that seem so important in life.

As for my house (and I am thinking of it as mine already, although it isn't really mine yet). It's a funny little house - http://www.klimchok.com/h-1409.html - unprepossessing on the outside, but it's very sweet inside, with a nice big, open living room, two bedrooms, a small eat -in kitchen and a laundry room with a shower and toilet in it as well. There's a washing machine but no dryer. Still, the washing machine is another major life improvement. Right now I wash my clothes in the bathroom sink, not the most enjoyable or efficient system. The idea of being able to wash things so that they are really clean is glorious to me. I'll get a dryer too as soon as I can. This house is much more affordable than the one I was looking at back in March. In the clear light of reality, I know that it was a great gift that I didn't get to purchase that house. I could not have afforded it really. And this one suits me better and has a guest room. It has a little more than a half acre of back yard with not much grass, so maintenance isn't going to be a big problem. And the heat is supplied by natural gas, which is the cheapest way to heat a home. No boilers or fuel tanks, no deliveries to worry about. It's just piped in. Very cool. And I don't have to worry about the roof, either. It's metal. Good for a lifetime.
