You Don't Have to Leave the House to Vote

I was still living in Arizona when the last presidential election took place. One of the very first things I did when I moved there was register to vote because I knew a presidential election was coming up and I knew it was going to be an important one. Even in the darkest moments of my agoraphobia in New York City, I always managed somehow to get myself to the polling place. Voting is such a rare privilege in this world that I try not to take it for granted. I'm not the most informed voter in the world - at least not as regards candidates for smaller offices. That's a mistake on my part but I still make an effort to cast my vote.

In Arizona, unfortuantely, in one of the most critical elections in American history, in a state where my vote might have mattered, my agoraphobia won. My niece, who had just given birth days earlier, took me twice to the polling place. Arizona - at least the Mesa area of Arizona - had not established enough polling places. The lines were LONG, LONG, LONG - and between my physical pain and my emotional craziness, I couldn't manage it. I gave up and helped the man who is currently in office to steal the election. I'm not going to pretend to be impartial here. It's only my opinion, but I think that George W. Bush is the worst, most corrupt and dishonest president in American history. I know there are lots of people who love him. I'm not one of them.

*He has led this nation into an unnecessary war;

*He and his government have kept the American people in a state of fear so far beyond the nature of the danger we are in that it embarrasses me that so many of us have actually fallen for it.

*He and his administration have alienated us from most of the rest of the world by a profound lack of diplomacy.

*He and his administration have put us into the biggest debt in our national history.

*He and his administration have broken every promise they made about protecting the environment

*He and his administration have withdrawn from the International Court - perhaps in anticipation of the fact that torture was going to be encouraged during their stay in office.

*He and his administration have chipped away at the basic rights provided in our constitution - using fear to justify their behavior.
