77. Biology VS. Chemistry: Part II

© Judi S. Kaminishi

I have just returned from a family reunion. I am happy to say that my Sister and I got along great. This is probably because, in her presence, I kept my mouth shut and just smiled at everything she said. She looks terrific! (Please read Article 76, Part I, for the intro to this topic.)

On the other hand, there were a couple of instances when she forgot things, normal for anyone of course. But if one compounds the forgetfulness of misplacing keys and various other important items such as hotel parking passes for guests, the distractedness or "lost at sea" look in a crowd, and instances of illogical, quirky behavior causing my brother to say that "she must be having a nervous breakdown or something," the obvious signs are there. I am referring to the side affects and toll that her prescriptive medicine is having on her.

One can make all the excuses in the world for the necessity of her "drug or drugs," but long-term use is definitely scary to me. The Sister that I have now is not the same Sister I have known for years, the vibrant, active, and brilliant at public speaking one. The one who doesn't miss a single detail about anything and can multi-task with the best. I am watching, hoping, praying for her recovery and return as soon as possible. Until then, I continue to read, study, research and learn what I can, to understand what is happening to her with this "mood altering" medicine.

Regarding our physical health and well-being, there is tons of information out there; most of it based on statistical studies, oftentimes contradictory and confusing, and endlessly changing. First, let me state that YOU are not a statistic, so do not buy into "group thinking." Secondly, lastly, ALWAYS seek your own information for your own special needs. Know that you MATTER and no one else, no matter his/her professional certification, can possibly know how you feel, ergo they cannot always make the perfect diagnosis and or know without a doubt what the best possible procedure is for your recovery, whatever the illness. Also, remember that prescriptions do not cure; they simply alleviate symptoms, oftentimes, most times, causing serious side effects in the long term.

I am about to share some very general information that either I have learned and experienced personally, or vicariously through someone very near and dear. This is information that you already know but cannot hear too often. Again, I do not recommend that anyone believe everything I share here, without researching for one's self.
